Rent out your tools and gear in NYC
If something you own sits in a closet most of the year, you can lend it to your neighbors on Leen. You set the price and approve every request.
Why it works in New York
Storing a pressure washer or a folding ladder costs real floor space here, and the person who needs yours is often a few blocks away. In a neighborhood where thousands of people live within a ten-minute walk, a tool that sits idle in a suburban garage can go out again and again.
What rents well
Things that are expensive to buy, needed briefly and awkward to store:
- Power tools and ladders. Drills, sanders, tile saws. Very few shops near the Lower East Side rent them.
- Camera and video gear. Lenses, lights and stabilizers, bought once and used now and then.
- Party and event gear. Projectors, speakers, folding tables and chairs, mostly wanted on weekends.
- Moving gear. Hand trucks, dollies, blankets and straps. Leases turn over all year.
- Outdoor and camping gear. Tents, coolers, paddleboards and skates, used a few times a year.
How lending on Leen works
- List it in three steps: photos and a title, your price, then availability and a cancellation policy.
- Requests come to you. Accept the ones you want; nothing is charged until you do.
- Plan the handoff in the chat, and add condition photos at pickup and return if you like.
- Payment runs through Stripe, and you both leave a review afterward.

How you stay in control
- You approve every request, and you can report or block anyone.

- Either of you can add condition photos at pickup and return, so you share one record.
- Payment runs through Stripe, never cash, and reviews go both ways.
Where lending starts
Leen launches in Lower Manhattan, starting in Stuyvesant Town (10009) and Peter Cooper Village (10010). Renting works on density, so we're starting with two neighborhoods instead of the whole city.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make money renting out your tools?
It depends on what you own and how often people need it. Things that are expensive to buy and needed for one weekend, like pressure washers, tile saws and carpet cleaners, get asked for far more than everyday hand tools. On Leen you set your own price.
Is it safe to lend to someone you don't know?
You approve every request and choose a cancellation policy for each listing. Payment runs through Stripe instead of cash, either of you can add condition photos at pickup and return, and you both leave reviews. You can also report or block anyone.
How much does Leen charge lenders?
Listing is free. Leen hasn't published its fees yet, and we'll tell the waitlist before any fee applies. You set your own prices, availability and cancellation policy.
When can I start listing?
